Leveled
He never really looked at her. His smile was always pasted on with a sheen of pity and frustration. She walked by him at the office and pretended that his harmless flirtation with the administrative assistant didn’t obliterate her self-confidence. Every night after work, she vowed not to care any more about those false smiles. Every morning, she lost the battle again and wondered why she was so without armor.
